A Letter of Thanks to Leatherman

People don't tend to send letters or emails anymore when a company does right - only wrong. So I wanted to write this morning and tell you thank you for your excellent customer service.

I have a Skeletool CX that I bought a year or so ago. It has become part of my daily dress routine. Pants on, belt on, Skeletool in the left pocket... It gets used so often that I have dulled the blade and re sharpened it many times. Unfortunately, I am not very good at it and the blade had become ruined due to my ineptitude.

I called Leatherman and asked if I could buy a new blade. I was told "no" and that I would have send it back for repair. While I hated to give it up, I went ahead and shipped it off to Oregon. Knowing that I ruined it myself, I went ahead and put a check in the box for the $9.50 repair and shipping fees.

In less than two weeks, my Skeletool showed up in my mailbox repaired and cleaned. The kicker was that my check was also in the package! So not only was it repaired and shipped back quickly, it was also done for free!

Leatherman has gained a customer for life. Tools that rock and customer service to back them up.

Go Buy DiRT 2 Today!

WOOT! DiRT2 comes out today from Codemasters. About a year and a half ago, they emailed me asking if they could license the 4x4ROCKSHOP logo for use in the game. Of course, I said "YES!" Well, after a long wait, the game comes out today. I have been combing the web for screen shots and finally found one with the logo! Sweet!

Jeep JK 2.5" Lift Project

Did a quick one-day Jeep JK lift/wheels/tires job. Very nice. Check out the pics, then call to order yours

This customer pulls his JK behind his motor home, so he didn't want too tall of a lift. He also wanted to keep cost under control. He knew he wanted to run 33" tires and didn't want to go over 2.5" of lift. He requested the Skyjacker lift, which consists of springs, shocks, bump stops (front and rear), rear track bar bracket and a rear axle brace. We also added .75" Daystar spacers up front to help eliminate the JK's rake. Once lifted, we added 285/70R17 Mickey Thompson ATZ tires mounted on Dick Cepek DC-1 wheels. The kit went on easily and even with the 1/2 hour it took to put in the 48 trim bolts on the wheels, the job was still done in about six hours, including test drive. The Jeep drives very well and should do even better once it's aligned.

It's Earth Day - Recycle

We always recycle around here. Stacks of empty cardboard boxes accumulate in the warehouse until we just can't stand it anymore. Today, I had had enough and realized that it was Earth Day, so why not clear it out!

I flattened most everything and loaded it up into the truck, then covered it with a BedNet to keep it all from flying out.

Now I will say that we have to drive about 20 miles round trip to drop it off - not so Earth-friendly. However, we did have other things to do in the next town over, anyway, so it was a good reason to go to the recycling dumpster.

SSL Update

If you happened to try and place an order last night or this morning you may have noticed that our secure certificate (SSL) had expired. Oops! While this technically has no bearing on the security of our site (it only verifies our identity against the website you are looking at), it is now up to date. So bring those orders on, baby!

On the Road Friday

We just wanted to let everyone know we will be on the road Friday. While we'll do our best to return voicemails and emails, please be patient. In addition, we will not be processing any orders on Friday. All orders will be handled on Monday when we return. This really shouldn't cause much of a delay for most orders but we thought it would be nice to at least let you know ahead of time.

We are here today, though, so if you're in a hurry for something call us as soon as possible.

We're Still Rockin'!

With all the doom and gloom about the economy, I figured I'd write a short post today just to let you all know how we're doing. Why? Because people keep sending my notes and calling me, saying "I'm glad you're still around."

What a nice thing to hear - that people are glad we're around. But the undertone of that is that so many shops are not still around.

Now I'm not going to pretend that everything's wonderful and we're rolling in the dough. I think you're smarter than that. 2008 was horrible and it took out a lot of shops, manufacturers and distributors. For us, it was a losing year financially but we're still here. We're still paying the rent. We're still shipping products in a timely manner.

What hasn't changed is our commitment to top-notch customer service, quick response times and great parts and accessories.

So rest assured, we plan on sticking around for a long time. In fact, we're hitting up new technology more and more every day. Our facebook page is growing steadily and our new twitter feed we just started has been a real gas and our followers are snatching up the daily deals there. Be sure to sign up!

Our New Billboard

Wow! Our new billboard is up in Chelsea, Alabama. It's very exciting for me to see it, as it's my first. I'm hoping it will bring us lots of in-store business. People keep telling me they can't find the shop or didn't know we were here so maybe this is the ticket. Let's hope so! Thanks to Westin for the awesome truck photo, too!

A Note on Torsion Keys

I had a very interesting discussion with my rep. from ReadyLift this weekend at a trade show. We were discussing the cost of their kits (most are $229.95) vs. others on the market since everyone seems to be selling leveling kits these days.

One part of our discussion was about torsion keys in particular. Why are theirs double the price of others on the market? Well, he had not only a great verbal reason but he whipped out an actual exhibit!

Notice in the photo how the ReadyLift key is forged. Not always the case with other brands. The broken one you see was cast and is off of a customer's truck. He came out to his truck one morning to go to his work and one side of the truck was on the ground, resting on his fenders. Now imagine if this happend at 80mph!

So please consider quality when you purchasing your parts - any parts. Remember that your life actually does depend on it.

Tornado of Savings

TORNADO OF SAVINGS!

You may have heard about the tornado that came through our town of Chelsea, AL today. Well, Fred and I were in the shop watching the sky lights suck upward while we heard the sirens going. Seems the twister touched down just east of our shop and took out some signs at the gas station and the bank. Well, it also took our power!

Fred and I hung out for a while, enjoying the nice candles we got from our neighbor, ALOTA Scents. We wrestled on the floor and even cleaned my toolboxes.

Eventually, we gave up and flew the coop. Here it is 4pm and the rain's still coming down and the power's still out. So, sitting at my dinner table, I am crafting this incredibly entertaining email to all of you.

We Really Do Recycle

We've mentioned before that we recycle like crazy in our shop. Well, today we have the proof for you! We couldn't even walk back in the shop with all the boxes stacked out there. So we flattened what we could, loaded the truck (inside and out) and drove it all 13 miles away to the nearest recycling center. We feel good about what we did for the planet and now we have room to move again. Yay us!
