Just thought I'd share a little bit of some personal news. This last week we spent almost every night manning our booth at the Shelby County Fair, here in Columbiana, Alabama. Now if you ain't from around here, the county fair is the real deal. We're not just talkin' rides, games and greasy food. Oh, no, the county fair's got exhibits and competitions for everything from livestock to canning to quilts to photography and, my favorite, baked goods.Since last year, I sort of joked about entering a pie in the county fair. I mean, really, though, could a Jeep shop owner actually stand a chance against seasoned white-haired ladies?
I decided to find out.
So, last Sunday I spent about five hours baking pies. I entered an apple pie and a pumpkin pie. Judging was on Monday - the first day of the fair.
I won...twice!
That's right, this ol' grease monkey took 2nd place for my apple pie and 3rd place for my pumpkin pie.
Oh, and as a bonus, our booth with my Jeep in it, took a 3rd place ribbon, too!
Yes, that's right, he can build a 4x4, chain saw a tree or bake a really yummy pie.
